Pros and Cons of Online Education Is it Right for You?

Online education is becoming increasingly popular as technology develops to accommodate the hectic and stressful lifestyles of everyday American men and women. Making the decision to pursue an online diploma or degree can be a difficult one – and a choice that should not be taken lightly.
If you're considering online learning, we suggest researching the pros and cons carefully. To help, we've put together a list of benefits and disadvantages of this type of learning below. Have a look and make your final decision knowing you did the proper preparation before jumping into something you may not be ready for.
Convenience. The convenience of online learning is by far the biggest advantage of this type of education. Not only do you eliminate the stress of actually having to show up to a classroom but most online courses allow you to complete the work at your own pace. This is especially helpful for single parents who have to work to support their family or for students who need to work full time in order to pay for their education.
Cost. The cost of online education is far lower than the cost of in-school education. Not only are courses offered at a significantly lower price but you'll also save money on commuting costs, parking permits and general living costs (you won't have to relocate/live in residence etc).
Cons of Online Education
Communication. Communication (or lack thereof) is the most significant barrier online learners will face. When it comes to online education, there is no face-to-face communication which many students may find difficult. Receiving answers or guidance from professors can sometimes be stressful as well – especially if the professor isn't technologically-inclined or interested in communicating or teaching via email.
Security. The other downfall of online education is the security. Unless you're taking courses with a very reputable institution, it can sometimes be difficult identifying which schools are legitimate and which are not. There are a lot of institutions promising degrees in an unrealistic amount of time and those are the ones you need to watch out for. Do your research before enrolling with an online school to make sure your degree is legitimate at the end of all of your hard work.
