Finding the Perfect Light Fixture for your Dining Room

Choosing the perfect accent piece to complete your elegant dining room can be a difficult and daunting task especially for new homeowners. The fixture you choose to hang above your table will likely become the focal point of the room, so you'll want to spend a good amount of time making sure it's the perfect piece.

Perhaps one of the most important elements of finding the perfect fixture is the size. The size of your dining room light will depend on the size of the room and the size of the table. If you're unsure of the size your light should be, take a look at the guidelines below:

If your room is 10' x 10' or smaller, a light fixture approximately 17" to 20" in diameter is ideal. If your room is 12' x 12' something in the range of 26" to 28" will look proportionate. If your room is 14' x 14' or bigger then you will want to choose a light fixture that is between 24" and 36" in size.

Another important factor is how far down the light should hang. Ideally, the fixture should hang approximately 30" from the surface of the table.

Size is by far the most important factor when choosing a light fixture for your dining room but other important elements include style, color and price.

The price for a dining room light fixture can range anywhere from $50 to thousands of dollars or more depending on the material and the structure of the piece. Investing a little more money in the beginning will not only make your fixture more attractive but will likely make it last longer as well.

As for style and color, those features will depend on the decor of the room and the interior design of your home as a whole. Choosing a fixture that compliments the style of your dining room is one thing, but it should also match the decor of the rest of your home at least to some extent.
