A well-organized home or workplace is more comfortable and functional. Having a place for everything removes clutter and increases efficiency. Whether you need to find the right pair of shoes for a special occasion or the right screwdriver for a repair job around the house, having everything organized just makes your life easier.
Here are the top 5 reasons to get organized today:
How often have you been running late for work and can't seem to find your keys or the right outfit? Or you'll begin a new home improvement project and discover you need a certain drill bit or wrench that you can't locate when you need it the most! We often spend far more time looking for items than it would have taken to designate a place to store it. Have a place for each item you use and get into the habit of returning it promptly when you're finished; you'll free up more time to do what you want later.
2. Save Money
You're pretty sure you can find the misplaced wrench that you need, but you just don't have enough time you need it now! Many of us will run to the store and buy the same tool again rather than delay a project further by tearing the house upside down. Of course, as soon as you come home with the new tool, the old one reappears. By staying organized, you'll have less reason for an impulsive purchase based on a tight deadline. The costs of organizing are minimal compared to the potential unnecessary spending!
3. More Focus
It's easier to concentrate when you can find the tool or instrument you need to complete the task! Why spend time trying to remember where you put it when you could just be using it? The alternative is to lose precious time searching and re-focusing to get back on task. Having what you need at hand exactly when you need it allows you to strike while the iron is still hot and accomplish far more with less distractions.
4. Less Stress
It's Murphy's Law: Anything that can go wrong, will go wrong and in the case of storage, things will always go missing when you need them most. Whether you spend 30 seconds or three hours looking for something, you take on added stress and negativity around the need to locate the item by a certain time. Many people will "beat themselves up" for not putting the item back or not being able to find it when they need it, and may even dwell on the event after they've located it. Nobody wants added stress and negativity in their life, and being organized can significantly reduce many of this needless stress.
5. Higher Quality of Life
How does putting your shoes back in the closet or keeping your desk neat and tidy contribute to you living a better life? While no single act will change your life, getting organized has many benefits. The previous reasons of less stress, increased money, focus and time added up over the course of several years can definitely impact your quality of life. The discipline gained from becoming organized can also yield a big payoff on the job. Being able to find what you need exactly when you need it increases your efficiency. Additionally, being more focused and able to set and achieve goals may impress your boss, resulting in a promotion.
While getting organized may not be fun, the benefits greatly outweigh the drawbacks. So make it a goal to get organized today, you'll thank yourself later!
Sylvia Bender is fairly excited about her new book on home organization. The book discusses file storage and commercial storage. Sylvia is hoping this will make organization a little easier.
